SUP Safety & Rescue

OVERVIEW

This one day course is designed to teach the fundamental rescue skills and safety knowledge for aspiring SUP instructors. The SUP Safety and Rescue course allows a full understanding and practical application of safety considerations and rescue techniques that accompany any coach.

The course includes, towing, incident management, drowning, board rescues and in water rescues. In addition knowledge will be gained in effective communication, equipment and recognition of other services such as lifeguards.

The course is delivered by Sian, a WSA trainer and ambassador.

Location

We run our WSA courses all from Anglesey. We will meet you at Menai Bridge. Our location is near to RibRide and Dylans. It is called Princes Pier near the launch slip. Look out for the metal high vis gate!

Pre-Requisites: 

First Aid, or recognised lifeguarding qualification. Member of WSA

Ability

Paddle effectively in light winds upwind, across wind and downwind; use two types of turns effectively

In order to register for the courses you will need to be a member of Water Skills Academy

 

NOTES

  • You can hire boards from Psyched Paddleboarding for £50 for the session

MIN NUMBERS

We require a min. number of 4 participants for the session to run. If you are booked onto a mixed open group and we are below the required numbers, we can offer to reschedule you for the next available mixed open group session or move you to a an exclusive private booking or you could make up the difference of a mixed open group price of 4 people. We will try our best to notify you a day prior to advise, if unsure please contact the team here.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Water bottle (no single use plastic bottles please)

  • Personal medication(s)

  • Change of warm clothes and footwear (before and after paddle boarding)

  • Spare set of underwear

  • Swimwear or shorts

  • Fleece or jumper (to wear on the water)

  • Old trainers (you don't mind getting wet) or appropriate water sport shoes

  • Something for taking notes ie note pad and pen, ipad etc

  • Packed lunch or you can get lunch from the cafe, they provide delicious food
