Preparing for winter paddle boarding
It's that wonderful time of year, snow all around and crisp cold air. It shouldn't put us of from jumping on our boards and heading off on a winter SUP adventure. You just need to make tweaks to your paddling kit so you are fully prepared to brace the elements of wonderful winter paddle boarding.
I've recently got back from a Scottish trip and we paddled in hail and snow, true typical Scottish winter conditions and I loved it! This is what I wore to keep me toasty and dry:
- Base Layers
Thermal top, I wore Peak UK
Thermal bottoms, I wore Peak UK
- Mid Layer
- Outer Layer
Sealskinz socks (Kept my feet toasty and dry)
Paddling trainers, I wore sportiva trainers as they were the biggest trainers I had to cope with the extra layers on my feet. Anything too tight closes the circulation and thats when you get cold.
Mittens, I wore super warm Buffalo Mitts
Baseball hat, perfect in the rain, hail
