We are delighted to be Water Skills Academy (WSA) Trainer. Sian Sykes, founder of Psyched Paddleboarding run these courses. She is also an ambassador to the WSA family, helping to inspire others into the fantastic sport. So if you a SUP enthusiast who would like to share your knowledge and experience with others to equip them with the SUP safely skills in a variety of environments, then the WSA courses are prefer for you to go off on your own adventures with your friends, club and family.

WSA SUP SAFETY & RESCUE

This one day course is designed to teach the fundamental rescue skills and safety knowledge for aspiring SUP instructors. The SUP Safety and Rescue course allows a full understanding and practical application of safety considerations and rescue techniques that accompany any coach.

The course includes, towing, incident management, drowning, board rescues and in water rescues. In addition knowledge will be gained in effective communication, equipment and recognition of other services such as lifeguards.

Price: £100.00 per person

Location: Llyn Padarn, Llanberis, Snowdonia

Pre-Requisites: First Aid, or recognised lifeguarding qualification. Member of WSA

Ability: Paddle effectively in light winds upwind, across wind and downwind; use two types of turns effectively

Remit: Sheltered / Open Water

WSA SUP FOUNDATION INSTRUCTOR

This is the first step to working as a Stand Up Paddle instructor. This two day course will introduce the novice instructor to teaching and communication skills, lesson planning, feedback and analysis skills and group and individual client management. If you are not sure if you are at standard then please contact us to discuss.

This course is designed to be combined with a WSA SUP Safety and Rescue training course (delivered the day before). The course is both dry and wet in content and is a practical and theoretical course.

Location: Llyn Padarn, Llanberis, Snowdonia

Pre-Requisites: WSA Rescue, First Aid, or recognised lifeguarding qualification. Member of WSA

Ability: Paddle effectively in light winds upwind, across wind and downwind; use two types of turns effectively

Remit: Sheltered Water (small lakes, sheltered bays, no flow rivers, canals)

Assessment Criteria: Coaching session, personal ability and Workbook

WSA SUP ADVENTURE GUIDE

The Adventure Coach is a leadership award that will equip you to coach, lead or guide in open water, hazardous environments. You will gain knowledge in various environments suitable for the remit of the award, safety in these environments and leadership strategies.

You will learn group management techniques and how to effectively use other coaches within your group. In addition, journey planning, incident management and safety will play a key focus during the course.

You will be educated in various byelaws and legislation that govern paddle sports in your area / country.

Those students who do not meet the desired standard will if appropriate be offered assistant coach status allowing persons to develop under other qualified coaches as well as assisting in centres and schools and to reapply for a formal assessment day at a later stage.

Price: £220.00 per person

Location: Snowdonia or Anglesey

Pre-Requisites: WSA Foundation Coach, WSA Rescue, First Aid, or recognised lifeguarding qualification. ASI Level 1–2 coach, BSUPA Level 1–2 Coach.

Ability: Paddle effectively upwind, across wind and downwind in open choppy water; use two types of turns effectively

Remit: Open Water (Coastal, Lochs/Lakes, Estuaries, slow moving rivers)

Assessment Criteria: Leadership, personal ability and Workbook
